The Everyday Artists Series is an ongoing project where I meet artists from around the community and encourage them to extract poetry and visual art from the everyday objects they own, acting as a self portrait of their lives and certain moments in time.

“Join Fajar as she explores everyday objects and their place and purpose. A mug, a plant, a plate; all objects have a story!Creators will observe everyday objects and extract art from them through collaboration and discussion. Changing how we view everyday objects can expand our creative practise and perspectives on life. Why do we pick the objects we do; why do they represent us? We will explore this concept through poetry and zine-making.In the session, creators will bring everyday object(s) of their choice based on the theme of the session to write a poem or a piece of writing about it. Fajar will teach the creators about rhyme schemes, writing styles, and give examples of other poets who have done similar things. After creators have written their poems, Fajar will teach them how to make and fold a zine so they can tell a visual story using the poems they wrote. She will also give tips on how to represent their objects through drawing and mixed media techniques.”
