Glimpses from the Netherlands.

This trip changed me in many ways. Bringing my camera felt necessary to my experience, as it was my first trip abroad in almost a decade. It felt like a privilege to be able to travel to a country I had admired for so long.

We stayed in a small town called Zaans Schans, which was so beautiful, so surreal, and so quiet. I cherished those quiet moments to reflect and capture what we were seeing.

When we were walking around, I looked into the river and saw something so strange. Just the letter ‘a’ floating around without anything else and a little wooden frame. It was so inexplicably sad, to think that those objects had lives and existed somewhere before this moment where they’re nothing. It almost felt like I had to take the picture to give them a chance to live on even if it was in a picture that only made sense to me.

As I circled back I saw my friends sitting on a bench and taking it all in, looking at the map, deciding what to do next. There is something so sacred and special about discovering a new country together.

The reason for the trip was an exhibition that I was a part of - ART ON LOOP, Amsterdam. We spotted a little Perler bead girl in the window in Saarphatipark, just outside of the gallery. Since we were just girls being girls on this trip, it felt only right to include her in our escapades.

Most of a trip to a foreign country is looking at the map and figuring out what routes and roads to take. With only a couple hours of sleep on our side, we tried to put our brains (and phones) together to make this happen.
